In the universal listing spirit at the turn of the year, I also tried to name my top 10 favourite albums and gigs of 2012. Not an easy job, but let's give it a try...
Dead End Kings by Katatonia was for sure the most influential album for me, but great works were released also by Deftones, Meshuggah, Gojira, Swallow the Sun, Borgnagar, Lapko, Wintersun, Stam1na, and Anathema.
Of the 115 gigs I witnessed, the most impressive ones were put out by Mastodon, Katatonia, Nightwish, Dream Theater, Devin Townsend Project, Stone Sour, Stam1na, Insomnium, Anathema, and Mokoma.
2012 was altogether a fine music year. Anticipations for 2013 are even higher: new stuff will be provided by Queensrÿche (with Todd La Torre), Dream Theater, Alice in Chains, Nerve End, and many others. But the release of the new Tool record, if really happening, will most likely mark the greatest musical moment of the year. Seven years have soon passed since 10'000 Days came out.
